Obituary of Joanne Boehm

Joanne Kathleen Boehm (nee Bielat), 78, of Libertyville, passed away July 4, 2014 in Libertyville. Joanne was the first Lake County Fair Queen in 1956. She graduated from Mount Mary College in 1957 and in the same year she married George. She taught 1st grade at Copeland Manor School in Libertyville and also established the Play Lady Program at Condell Memorial Hospital. She was active at St. Joseph School in the playground program and was a co-chair of the St. Joseph High School CCD program. Joanne was the Director of the David Adler Cultural Center and was responsible for the rehabilitation of the building. She was the President of the Libertyville Junior Women Club and Co-General Chair of the Carmel Catholic High School Street Scenes. Joanne was the owner and operator of Balloon Productions and was involved with in the Northern Illinois Balloon Network. Joanne was highly involved at St. Joseph Catholic Church serving as Chairman of the St. Joseph Parish Bereavement Ministry and was one of the early lectors at St. Joseph Church. She was an amazing person who devoted her life to others and will be dearly missed. Joanne is survived by her beloved husband George of nearly 57 years of marriage; her cherished children Mary Beth Boehm of Ft. Lauderdale, Kathleen A. (Gregory) Svoboda of Peoria, Steven M. (Eileen) Boehm of Eegan, MN, Theresa M. (James) Gasick of Libertyville, Joseph W. (Katherine) Boehm of Gurnee; her adored grandchildren Elizabeth, Christine and Mathew Svoboda, Daniel and Carly Boehm, George Marshall, Michael and Joseph Gasick and Emily, Jason and John Boehm; her loving sister Carol Newcomb and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Caroline Bielat and her daughter Nancy Ann Boehm. Funeral Mass for Joanne will be celebrated Wed. July 9th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Visitation will be held Tues. from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, (Rt 176, 1 Block East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville. Private interment Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. Donations made in Joanne's name to the St. Joseph Church Bereavement Ministry, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville would be greatly appreciated.
