Obituary of Kelly Ann Hackendahl

Kelly Ann Hackendahl, 20, of Libertyville, passed away Aug. 28, 2014, in Bloomington, IN. Kelly was born in Elk Grove Village. She was a graduate of Libertyville High School, where she was a leader on the Poms team and a friend to everyone. Kelly lived her life with a palpable passion -- for her family, for her friends, and for children. She always loved camp, starting as an attendee at Camp Wapsie in Iowa and later becoming a counselor at Banner Day Camp. When she settled on attending Indiana University, her choice of study was an easy one: education. She was an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at IU, where her love of costume parties was surpassed only by her love for her sisters. Her 20 years were full of laughter, kindness, and a positivity that radiated every time you talked to her. Kelly will be remembered forever by her parents, Craig and Jodi; her sister, Jenna (fiancé Scott); her brother, Mark; her grandparents, Chuck and Mary Smoot and Art and Linda Hackendahl; and her aunts, uncles, and cousins, who she always made laugh with her quick wit and on-point impersonations. Her childhood dog Murphy is surely by her side in heaven. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 121 E. Maple St., Libertyville. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 1, from 4-8 p.m. at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, Ltd., 101 Park Place (Route 176, one block east of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. If desired, memorial donations to the Breast Cancer Philanthropy of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, Indiana University, 1020 N. Jordan Ave., Bloomington, IN, 47406 would be greatly appreciated.
