Janet L. Stephens, 83, previous 50-year resident of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on October 27, 2016 at 10:30 PM at Journey Care Hospice, Glenview, Illinois. She was born on July 22, 1933 in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of Sylbert and Ida (Rohner) Cook. She married Herbert T. Stephens on April 2, 1955, and he preceded her in death in 1992. Janet was a passionate grade school teacher in the Lawrenceville school system for nearly 30 years. She taught second, third and fourth grade students at Lincoln Elementary, Brookside School and Arlington Elementary. She was devoted member of the Vincennes Christian Science Church where she served in many positions including First and Second Reader. After her retirement she was known for performing Marinette plays at the Lawrenceville Library and through her church. Survivors include her daughter Jenell Mroz and Peter of Libertyville, IL, son Louis Stephens and Sheri of Chelsea, AL; five grandchildren, Kate Mroz of Arlington Heights, IL; Annie Mroz of St. Louis, MO; Kotie (Stephens) Brasher and Joey of Leeds, AL; Chad Stephens of Birmingham, AL; Rebecca (Stephens) Roebuck and Peyton of Atlanta, GA; two great grandchildren Bella Brasher and Sophie Brasher both of Leeds, AL. A private Memorial Service for family and friends will be held. In-lieu of flowers please make donation to the East Lawrence Academic Foundation, PO Box 533, Lawrenceville, IL 62439.
