Robert Brongiel, 80, of Vernon Hills, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at Condell Medical Center. Born in Chicago, Robert's life was marked by service and achievement. A 1968 graduate of DePaul University, he answered the call to duty, serving with distinction in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. Returning home, he earned an MBA from Lake Forest College and embarked on a distinguished 30-year career in pharmaceuticals at Abbott Laboratories. In retirement, Robert pursued his passion for collecting rare first-edition books and artwork. Recently, he was honored as a Vernon Hills Local Military Vet. Robert's quiet strength and generous spirit touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

Robert is survived by Sue, his loving wife of 54 years; his children Jeff (Jamie) and Jenny Balmes; his grandchildren Emma, Addelyn Brongiel & Jaxson and Brynn Balmes. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Stella; and his brother Edmund.

Funeral services for Robert will be held privately at Ft. Sheridan National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Gary Sinise Foundation  www.garysinisefoundation.org or Shriners Children’s Charity https://lovetotherescue.org would be greatly appreciated.
