
Obituary of Matthew F Miholic
Matthew F. Miholic, 98, a man of remarkable depth and achievement, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025 two weeks shy of his 99th birthday. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army, including a distinguished role in President Roosevelt's funeral train honor guard. His professional life spanned from age 17 and lasted 41 years at Abbott Labs, where he excelled as a Chemical Analyst. In Lake County, he left an indelible mark, serving as a North Chicago Alderman and a 14-year member of the Lake County Board, Vice President of the Lake County Forest Perserve where he founded the Lake County Senior Citizens Day and served on the Northeastern Illinois Planning commission and charter member of the National WWII Museum. He was a charter member of the Croatian Cultural Center, a Farm Bureau Hall of Fame inductee, and a skilled electrician who generously shared his talents. An avid sportsman and gardener, he also found joy in simple pleasures like Sunday popcorn lunches and cheering on the Cubs and Bears. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, leaving a legacy of love and service.
Matt is survived by his wife of 73 years Dorothy (nee Bentley), 3 children Debbie (Art) Tekampe, Greg (Debbie) Miholic, Diana (Steve) Crutchfield, grandchildren Brian (Susie), Vicki (Justin), Kevin (Erica), Adam (Lauren), Peter (Chelsea), Erin (Chris), Leslie (Justin). Great Grandchildren: Abby, Brianna, Garrett, Layla, Zoey, Amelia, Lucas, Sloan, Grace, Noah, Grayson, Emma, Teagan, Joey, Quinn, and Logan; sister-in-law Pat Beier; and many nieces and nephews.
Matt is preceded in death by his sons Mark and Matthew; his 9 sisters and 5 brothers.
Visitation for Matt will be from 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Saturday March 29th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00p AM on Monday March 31st at St. Mary of the Annunciation 22333 W Erhart Rd, Mundelein, IL 60060 with a visitation at church one hour prior to Mass. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
