Obituary of Bonnie Jean Myers

Please share a memory of Bonnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bonnie Jean Myers, nee Gleason, lifelong resident of Libertyville, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2023, surrounded by her family and dog in the comfort of her home. Born in 1940 at Condell Hospital, she was the daughter of Stanley E. and Marguerite Gleason. In 1958, Bonnie graduated from Libertyville High School. Following graduation, she discovered her true calling in life – caring for children. This led her to establish a home daycare, a venture she diligently nurtured for over 40 years. She was notably adept at working with children with special needs and behavioral challenges. Bonnie cherished being able to care for her grandchildren later in life. She possessed a warm-heartedness that embraced all who crossed her path, but those that knew her well also saw that she had a feisty spirit, wicked sense of humor, and sharp wit. She was a strong, independent woman who wasn’t afraid to stand up for what she believed in. Beyond her role as a caregiver, Bonnie was a dedicated fan of the Blackhawks, Indy car racing, and figure skating; she was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to music, had a green thumb, and was also a keen solver of puzzles. She cherished her friendship with her best friend Jean Bock, including many outings to the Lincolnshire Marriott Theater, going out for breakfast at various local establishments, and sharing a piece of pie at Bakers Square. Additionally, Bonnie's affection for her numerous rescued cats and her beloved German Shepherds added a compassionate dimension to her life. Bonnie Myers dedicated her life to the betterment of others, leaving an indelible impact. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who were touched by her kindness and generosity.

Bonnie is survived by her loving children Stephen D. (Penny) Myers Jr., Hal D. (Tiffany) Myers and Melissa S. (Joel) Maderer; her adoring grandchildren Taylor, Spenser, Connor, Hunter, Andrew, Austin, Jacob, Matthew Philip, Andy and Matthew Ross; her cherished great-granddaughter Garnett and her dearest brother Richard Gleason. She is preceded in death by her daughter Lisa K. (the late Wayne D.) Makela, her son Scott M. Myers, her grandson Jason D. Myers, and her sister Barbara Fitzgerald.
