Obituary of Daniel James Herdmann

Daniel James Herdmann, age 66, died suddenly on Wednesday December 7, 2016 while on vacation in the Virgin Islands. The second of 10 children, Daniel was born on January 22, 1950 in Queens, New York to Edward Herdmann and Mary Ann (Thomas). A man whose life and care for others defies simple description, he leaves behind a legacy of love and tenderness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Joanne; children Becky, Chris (Arsine), Beth, Katie; granddaughter Adriné; siblings Wendy Sikora (J. William), Cathi (deceased), Pam Butler, Tim (Karen), David, Michael (Kerry), Stacy Penn (Bob), Tom (Amy), Beth Peterson; stepfather William Thomas. He viewed his career as a ministry and dedicated thirty years of his life to the Insurance Company Kemper (Broadspire) and finished his career at the Philadelphia Contributionship where he served as Vice President of Claims. His warm heart, dedication and steadfast commitment to his colleagues made him a trusted mentor and an essential source of counsel and advice. The family will greet friends at St. Mary of Vernon Church 236 U.S. Highway 45, Indian Creek, IL 60061 on Saturday December 17 at 11:00 am. Mass will follow at 12:00 pm, with a luncheon to follow.
