Obituary of Bruce K Ruedig

Please share a memory of Bruce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bruce K Ruedig, 66, longtime Libertyville resident, passed away on April 14, 2023 at Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Bruce was born and raised on the North Shore of Chicago. His big heart was evident from a young age; he befriended the kid who felt left out, and the only time he got into a fight was to protect another kid who was being bullied. Even as a young man he was a self-starter. For example, he attempted to build a cage for a nonexistent (but greatly desired) pet monkey. He acquired his pilot's license before his driver's license; he bicycled to his flying lessons.

From planning social activities as a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity to running the local homeschool community's sports olympics to organizing fundraisers, Bruce loved to help people - and help them have a good time. He enjoyed a long career in computer and telecom IT sales and service (and he really did enjoy his work!).

Generous and always ready to lend a helping hand, he had a talent for bringing people together. Those whom he met encountered a cheerful and friendly soul. The outdoors were his happy place; his favorite outdoor activity was golf, which he enjoyed whenever the chance presented itself. He also putzed in the garden, swam, played soccer, skied, and waterskied. Notably, at one wedding he waterskied around a lake in his full groomsman's tuxedo.

Bruce was the epitome of a family man and was deeply involved in the lives of his dear wife, children and siblings. They benefited from his dedication, which included coaching his childrens' soccer teams, driving them to their activities, and encouraging them in their careers. A music lover, he sang in church choirs and enjoyed playing his guitar frequently. He shared his wife’s devout Catholic faith as an active participant in his local faith communities, especially at Marytown, a Franciscan monastery. Those who knew him, even briefly, recognized the strength and joy his faith brought him.

Bruce was an eternal optimist and always saw the bright side of life; the many fond and entertaining memories he made will stay with us for the rest of our lives. He will be greatly missed.

Bruce is survived by his dearest wife Therese of 41 years; his loving children Nicholas (Elizabeth), Allison, Caroline and Peter; his cherished grandchildren Leif and Ash; his beloved father Philip; his loving siblings Bradley (Stacey), Brian, Amy (Bob) Poyo and Laura (Bob) Metz; and many nieces and nephews.
