Obituary of Peter Mroz

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Peter J Mroz, 66, of Libertyville passed away unexpectedly in his home on May 4, 2023. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 19th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville, IL 60048. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Illinois State University Athletics (https://giving.illinoisstate.edu/fund/indoor-practice-facility-fund/). Under Dedication please denote Peter Mroz.

Peter is survived by his wife of 38 years Jenell, his two daughters Katie (Robby) Mroz-Binder and Annie (Trevor) Instrup, his brother Mike (Colleen) Mroz, his sister Christine (David) Fries, his sister Susan Mroz, and his many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Jane (Bieszczad) Mroz and his son Eric. Peter was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend.

Peter was born July 1,1956 in Chicago, Illinois to Eugene and Jane. He graduated from Weber High School in 1974 and Illinois State University in 1978, where he played offensive line for the Redbirds. While in college, Peter met and fell in love with Jenell. Peter worked in the construction industry as an estimator and project manager for Tempus Construction (PCI). Peter would always say, “Love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

Peter loved playing and watching sports. He was a fan of the drama, the passion, and the love for competition. Peter lived out his Chicago sports dreams of watching all of his favorite teams win championships. There’s no words to describe his elation and tears over the Cubs winning the World Series in 2016. Peter was a coach of his children’s soccer teams but mostly found himself as the number one fan at a swim meet or water polo game. Peter was proud of his girls and their accomplishments.

Peter loved his family and friends. Although quiet, he had a great sense of humor and wasn’t afraid to laugh at himself. He could be found completing projects around the house and reading the newspaper. Peter enjoyed going to sporting events and concerts, especially Pat McCurdy, and catching up with friends and family over a good meal and a beer. He was extremely generous with his love, effort, and time. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
