Obituary of Sandra M. Duffy
Sandra M. Duffy (nee Matayosian), 76, longtime Libertyville resident, passed away May 14, 2023. Sandy was born and raised in Waukegan, where she graduated from Holy Child High School. She continued her education at the University of Dayton and the University of Illinois where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music. Sandy was a gifted music teacher and shared her talents in West Bend, WI and the School of St. Mary in Lake Forest. She was also an accomplished quilter and loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She traveled the world with her beloved late husband Tom, creating unforgettable memories together. One of her cherished family traditions was spending time at their Wisconsin Lake House for over 35 years. Sandy was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Libertyville and was an active member of the church choir, among many other volunteer ministries with the church. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and cherished her role in her family's lives.
Sandy is survived by her loving children, Michael (Sue) Duffy and Kathleen (Mike) Madden; her cherished grandchildren, Tommy, Jack, and Clare; and her dearest siblings, Judy Shwaiko and Janet Clancy. She is preceded in death by her husband Tom.
Visitation for Sandra will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 9-10 am at McMurrough Funeral Chapel located at 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Following the visitation, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Interment Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
