Obituary of Marie Sesterhenn

Marie Sesterhenn, 97 of Riverwoods, Illinois died peacefully on August 3, 2023. She was born in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Alvernia Catholic High School in Chicago. She lived in Libertyville for over 40 years. She worked for Illinois Bell, Roppel Hair Salon, Sears, the Retreat House at the Mundelein Seminary, and Carmel High School in Mundelein (cafeteria staff). She was involved in St. Joseph’s Church in Libertyville as well at St. Mary’s of Huntley, Illinois. She enjoyed working with many women for Project Linus using her quilting, sewing and knitting skills to make items for others in need. She enjoyed biking, walking, exercising and being outside. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When she was younger, she enjoyed taking care of her grandkids while their parents were away.

Marie was preceded in death by her first husband Sherwood Ohlson, her parents, Elizabeth and Peter Schneider, her son Peter Sesterhenn, her second husband Cletus Sesterhenn, her brother Paul Schneider and sister-in-law, Florence Schneider, her sister Kay Kurowski and brother-in-law, John Kurowski.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Bruce) Labno, her sons, Steven (Barb), Don (Cindy) Sesterhenn, and Nora (Peter’s spouse) Sesterhenn, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Elevate Memory Care in Riverwoods and the Moments Hospice staff for making Marie’s last several months comfortable and peaceful.

Funeral Mass for Marie will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 16th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Visitation will held at Church from 9:15 until the time of Mass. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
