Obituary of Bob Marrs
James Robert “Bob” Marrs, US Army veteran, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023, at the age of 78 in Riverwoods, IL. Born in Tuscola to Fred and Lora Mae Marrs, Bob embarked on a remarkable journey after graduating from Crete-Monee High School, bravely enlisting in the US Army. Specialist 5 Marrs served his nation during the Vietnam War in Ft. Sheridan, IL, Vietnam, Camp Zama in Japan and then as an Army recruiter in Beckley, West Virginia. Following his service, he carved out a successful and enduring career in banking in Lake County. Bob's legacy is adorned with infectious humor, always with a twinkle in his eye and a joke in his heart. Woodworking and fishing were passions which brought him immense joy, alongside savoring a good cigar, a ride in his car with windows down and music turned up or hanging out with friends and family around a campfire. He found solace in classic black-and-white western movies and held unwavering loyalty to the Cubs and Bears as their devoted fan. Bob will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered for the richness he brought into the lives of those around him, as well as his awesome recipes for chili or (his favorite) biscuits and gravy.
Bob is survived by his loving children Kristin (Jason) Hunt and Jennifer (Andy) Lerman; his adoring grandchildren Justin, Ryan (fiancée Lauren Laky), Taylor, Drew, and Logan; his dearest brothers Richard (Pat) and Ronald (Pam); and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. Bob is preceded in death by his wife Deborah Dunn Marrs and his granddaughter, McKenzie Lerman.
