Obituary of Donald Edward Dixon, Sr.

Donald E. Dixon Sr. 98, recently of Libertyville Illinois, spending the majority of his life in Youngstown Ohio, peacefully passed away on June 15, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on April 1, 1926 (although he was known to tell people in Youngstown his birth date was in June, he didn’t like April Fool’s Day). He was the son Leo Dixon and Anna (Murphy) Dixon.  

“Pops” as he was called by his family graduated in 1945 from Ursuline High School. He then joined the US Navy and fought in Pacific Theater. After being honorably discharged he returned to Youngstown attending and graduating from Youngstown State University, formally Youngstown College.  During his life he worked in the family businesses, Hudix, and WSOM radio. He later, worked and retired from the State of Ohio Real Estate Division. 

He leaves his children Donald (Barbara) Dixon Jr. of Poland Ohio, his daughter Mary (George) Kashmar of Libertyville Illinois, and his son-in-law Emanuel Saraceno of Denver NC.  He leaves his grandchildren Matthew (Chris) Saraceno of Lake Norman NC, Katie (Mark) Rowley of Hilliard Ohio, Mark Saraceno of Denver NC , Patrick Kashmar (Mikaela) of Volo Illinois, Donald Dixon III of Massillon Ohio, and Anne Kashmar (fiancé Brandon Wellman ) of Dodgeville WI. He also leaves six great grandchildren Gianna and Gabriella Saraceno, Madelyn and Nathan Rowley, Hailey and Zoey Kashmar and an expectant great granddaughter in October 2024.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Kathryn in 2018, his daughter Anne Saraceno in 2022, his parents, his sister Lucille and brothers Leo, Norman, and Joe.     

On June 25, 2024 a visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church Libertyville Illinois at 9:30 am  followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am.  At later date a private family prayer service and burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown Ohio.  

The family would like to thank, from the bottom of our hearts the staffs of both Belmont Senior Living in Buffalo Grove Illinois and Vitas Hospice for their outstanding care of Pops in the last months of his life.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Vitas Hospice 660 N Hicks Rd Suite 100 Palatine Illinois or Belmont Senior Living 500 McHenry Rd.
