Obituary of Eileen M. Padera
Eileen Margaret Padera, 90, a resident of Libertyville since 1972, passed away on August 24, 2024 at Condell Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chicago to Irish immigrant parents Tom and Nellie Tangney (nee Clifford) of County Kerry, Ireland as the fifth of six siblings, Eileen grew up on the west side of Chicago as a parishioner of Presentation Catholic Church. She graduated from Holy Name Cathedral High School in Chicago, Class of 1952. A gifted seamstress, Eileen honed her skills under the guidance of her mother. Over the years, Eileen created everything from imaginative Halloween costumes for her children to elegant bridesmaid dresses, even crafting her niece’s wedding gown.
Eileen was an active and vibrant part of the Libertyville community. She was a devoted member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish for over 50 years, where she served in various ministries and took joy in sewing baptismal garments for newborns. She worked for a decade as a teller at First National Bank in Libertyville before transitioning to Libertyville High School, where she served for 13 years in the Career Resource Center. After retirement, Eileen also generously volunteered for more than 20 years in the Condell Medical Center gift shop.
However, her most cherished role was that of being a mother to her 3 children, grandmother to her 4 grandchildren and aunt to her 41 nieces and nephews. Eileen was the central host for holiday gatherings and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband Robert Sr. with whom she was in the 70th year of marriage; her cherished children Robert Jr., Beth, and Timothy (Torunn Yock); her dearest grandchildren June, Roman, Reidunn and Tangney, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Beatrice, Thomas, Eugene, Mary (her twin) and Margaret “Peggy”.
