Obituary of Joseph Ptasienski
Joseph Ptasienski, 92, passed away peacefully on Oct 16, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 8, 1932, in Waukegan and was raised in North Chicago, where he was one of 13 children. He graduated from Waukegan High School in 1950. He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1957. He then married Joyce Stritar on August 10, 1957, and went on to raise 8 children. He was a member of St Joseph’s parish in Libertyville since 1966. He was actively involved in boy's softball and the Boy Scouts. Much of his career was spent at Fansteel in North Chicago until he started his own Home Maintenance and Repair business. After retirement, he volunteered much of his time at Habitat for Humanity and St Joseph’s parish. He enjoyed his time on his swing, reading a good book and looking out at his beloved lake.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Joyce, his children Donna Raef, Stephen (Jeannie), David (Dan), Janet (Robert) Engelmann, Kevin (Lisa), Matthew (John), Mark (Ann), and Andrew (Michelle), 23 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Gene (Blanche), Stanley (Sharon), Betty Lewis, Cecile (Bill) Stankiewicz/Gorr, Sally (John) Melch, and Lorraine Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Stella, and siblings Peter, Jules, Dorothy, Daniel, Ann, and Edward.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville, Illinois, from 2-6 pm. The funeral Mass will be on Monday, October 21, 2024, at St Joseph Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville, at 10:30am.
