Obituary of Dorothy Skinner
Dorothy Skinner, 99, of Libertyville, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, one week shy of her centennial birthday, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Streator, IL, to John and Margaret Maras, Dorothy graduated from Streator High School. She began her career at Streator National Bank and soon after married her high school sweetheart, John.
After John's return from serving in World War II, they started their family. Dorothy embraced her roles as wife and mother, dedicating her life to her family’s happiness and well-being. She was known for hosting memorable family gatherings, where she lovingly prepared meals and ensured every detail was perfect.
Once her children were grown, Dorothy volunteered her time and energy to the elderly and infirm at the Winchester House. A woman of deep faith, she was also actively involved at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Dorothy cherished the company of her friends and family and was a skilled bridge player. She and John shared a love of travel, creating wonderful memories as they explored the world together. Dorothy's positive outlook and cheerful spirit touched the lives of everyone she met. She will be deeply missed.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children John R Skinner (Rita), Susan Feltz, Steven J (Moira) Skinner, and Margaret (Michael) Schreiber; her adoring grandchildren Michael & Julie, Matthew & Katie, Aaron & Carrie, and Douglas & Stephanie; her cherished great-grandchildren Charlie, Benjamin, & Will, and John Thomas, Luke & Kate, and Abigail & Hannah, and Kaden, and Remington & Collins and Spencer, David, & Rory, and Henry & Molly. Dorothy is preceded in death by John her husband of 60 years; her parents; her brother William and sister Margaret.
Funeral Mass for Dorothy will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday December 28th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Interment will take place at St Mary’s Cemetery in Streator. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Suncrest Hospice, 5 Revere Drive, Suite 130, Northbrook, IL 60062 would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements by McMurrough Funeral Chapel (847) 362-2626.
