Bernard F. “Bud” Bolgrien, 80, formerly of Lake Bluff/Lake Forest, passed away peacefully January 19, 2015. Bud was born and raised in Wisconsin. He served honorably in the army in Korea. He went on to have a long successful career in hotel management and in recent years worked at the Navy Exchange. Bud’s greatest treasure in life was his family; he was deeply devoted to his wife of 51 years, his six children and his 12 grandchildren. Bud is fondly remembered for his gift of storytelling, his sometimes outrageous humor and his ability to make everyone feel welcome. He will be remembered with love & laughter.
Bud is survived by his wife Helen (nee Kowalke); children Kathryn Bolgrien, Mary (Mick) Greenberg, Ruth (Wayne) Schmidt, Jane (Michael) Kilgannon, Margaret (Robert) O’Hara and Karl William “Bill” (Natalie) Bolgrien; grandchildren Sam and Brian Greenberg, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Ashley Schmidt, Evangeline Madden, Jack Martin and Aidan Bernard Kilgannon, Daniel and Jonathon O’Hara, and Benjamin and Michael Bolgrien; his brother William Bolgrien and sisters Mary (Ron) Russell and Alice (Alan) Schmatzhagen. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Evangeline Bolgrien and his sister-in-law Carol Bolgrien.
A celebration of Bud’s life will be held Jan 24th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place (Rt 176, 1 Block East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville with a service and military honors at 2:00 pm.
