Obituary of Grace Margaret Koffel

Grace M. Koffel, of Libertyville, passed away on January 21, 2015, four days prior to her 101st. birthday, at the Westmoreland Home in Lake Forest, IL. Grace was a lifelong resident of the Libertyville area and member of St. Joseph’s Church. She was born and lived until after she began raising her family in Rondout, IL. In 1952 she moved with her young family into the home that she and her husband built in Green Oaks. She lived in her family home for more than sixty years. She lived her last year and a half as a resident of the Westmoreland Home. She worked for many years at Grandy Cleaners in Libertyville and later at Robertson’s Clothing Store in Lake Forest. Her family shared her pride in her skills as a seamstress. Grace was a long-time volunteer for the Condell Hospital Auxiliary. She was a world traveler. She traveled many times throughout America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia with her long-time friend, Jean Denley. She went on an African Safari, rode an elephant in Kenya, and parasailed in the Caribbean while in her eighties. She especially enjoyed schmoozing with new friends on cruise ships throughout the world. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She loved practical jokes. Her smile and sense of humor are her legacy. Grace is survived by her children Betty Ann (Jim) Moran and John (Lynn) Koffel; her grandchildren Margaret (Jeff) Kiszonas, Kristi (Peter) Nevin Jim (Elizabeth Bennett) Moran III; six great-grandchildren who were the light of her life and many nieces and nephews and their children. Grace is preceded in death by her husband Wayne A. Koffel; her parents Vito and Marianna Volino; her brothers Mike, Jerry, Sam and Frank Volino; her daughter-in-law Susan Koffel and two infant grandchildren. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday Feb. 2 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Visitation will be held Sunday Feb. 1 from 3-7 pm at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place (Rt 176, 1 Block East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville. Interment Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
