Obituary of Richard L. Portegys

Richard “Rick” L. Portegys, SGT 1st Class US Army retired, of Lake Bluff, passed away at Loyola Univ. Med. Ctr. Rick was born in Libertyville and was a 1965 graduate of Warren Newport high school. He had served with the Army in Vietnam and was a member of the Mundelein VFW. Rick had also retired from the Lake Bluff Post Office after 42 years of service. He loved working with horses and cattle on his sister’s ranch and just being with his family and friends. Rick is survived by his wife Jolene “Joie” Portegys, nee Wynen, of 42 years of marriage; his sons Aaron and Austin; his mother Nevonne Portegys; his brother Peter Paul (Boots); his sisters Beth (Steve) Krull and Lynda (Leo) Braley; serveral nieces & nephews and his damned dog Casey. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Fri. May 27 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave., Libertyville. Interment with Military honors at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation Thurs. from 4 – 8 pm at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, (Rt 176, 1 Blk E of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, a donation of any size new blankets made to either the Salvation Army or to Love INC of Lake County would be greatly appreciated. Funeral info (847) 362-2626.
