Please share a memory of Laurence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Laurence “Larry” Dunlap died at the age of 88 on February 24, 2020, fortified by the Rites of Holy Mother Church. He is survived by Joan, his beloved wife of 67 years; his 3 sons Larry (Lynne), Chris (Annemarie), and Peter; his 9 grandchildren Alyssa (Braden), Jason (Ashley), Morgan, Taylor, David, Joseph, Sarah, Daniel, and Marie; his 1 great-grandchild, Kaden; and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Helen; precious son, Jason; siblings, Jim and Enid; and in-laws, Arthur and Margaret Heinson.
After honorably serving in the U.S. Army, Larry spent many years residing in Libertyville, initially as a teacher at Diamond Lake School, and then as an attorney of about 57 years. He helped countless people and successfully tried cases before the IL Supreme Court. He was a founding member of the Libertyville Rotary Club, Libertyville Athletic Club, and started St. Joseph’s school intramural wrestling. He was founding member and president of the Lake County Rifles semi-pro football team. In 2007 he was inducted into the Iowa Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame (“Dan” Dunlap, as he was fondly called) as member of their 1952 and 1953 winning football teams. But he is best remembered for his love and devotion to his family (of whom he was a staunch defender); his adventuresome spirit; his many jokes, intelligence, and wit; the smile and twinkle in his eye; his faith in God; his deep generosity; being a strong fighter; and how he cherished and loved his wife, Joan, with unending devotion. May he rest in the peace of Christ.
