Obituary of James Mahan

James Mahan, passed away at the age of 89 on Easter Sunday 4/12/2020. Jim was the youngest and last surviving member in his family of twelve. He was born in Parshall ND on June 17, 1930.
Jim is survived by and was the:
• beloved husband of Patricia Mahan
• devoted father of Mary Jo Mahan, Walter Mahan (Jim), Eileen Baumgen (Ken), Raymond Mahan (Eileen), Mark Mahan, Daniel Mahan (Glenna), John Mahan
• proud grandfather of Lauren Fredrickson, Colette Fredrickson, Sean Mahan, Ryan Mahan, Jessica Mahan , Erin Mahan, Max Mahan and Morgan Mahan
At the young age of 17, Jim enlisted in the North Dakota National guard, served as an Army Infantry Staff Sergeant in the Korean War and was a survivor in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. After serving in the war, he attended college at Seattle University where he met his wife to be, Patricia Ballweber and later graduated in 1956.
Jim was a long time Chicago area resident, residing in the Beverly Chicago neighborhood and the Chicago suburbs of Villa Park & Mundelein. He volunteered as a minor and little league baseball coach in the Chicago Kennedy Park District, was a long time employee of Cargill / American Maize, retiring in 1978. Following his retirement, Jim served as a volunteer for Hines VA hospital in Maywood from 1978 to 1997 and most recently he was an active and faithful parishioner of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville.
Jim will be laid to rest at Fort Sheridan cemetery in Highwood Illinois at a later date.
