Obituary of Janet Marie McGarry

Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Marie Mors McGarry, February 1937 – July 2020, Rochester, Michigan. After a full life, touching so many – from family and friends to people she’d see at her favorite stores – Janet left us on July 3rd as she went for a nap. Although she was a champion fighting her illnesses and lived far longer than most with her conditions, she won’t be remembered for her fight, but rather for the soft, loving way she lifted your day. And it’s those lifts and smiles that will carry her family through. She was blessed with 83 years of life and a family that loved her like the foundation she was. She taught us faith, acceptance, fashion, dancing, laughter and love simply through being herself every day. She liked to treat those she loved with little presents without any occasion, sent cakes across the country, and had pies waiting for you at the end of a long flight to see her. The little things that she did were not lost on us and will continue on in the legacy she so creatively sewed. Janet was born in Libertyville, Illinois to Edward and Genevieve Mors. She attended college at Iowa State where she met and married her blue-eyed love, Raymond G. McGarry in 1958. Their life journey took them to settle in Flint, Cleveland, Rochester, Mexico and seasonally in Naples, with frequent car rides to visit their ever-growing family. Janet leaves behind her loving husband Ray, sister Judy (Tony) Kennedy, sisters-in-law Margaret (Richard dec.) Fergen and Ruth (Grant) Becker, as well as her four children: Michele (Mark) Iammarino, Michael (Maidie) McGarry, Marilyn (Tom) Rooney, Maureen (Dan) Vargovick, and her most cherished grandchildren: Melanie (Jack), Emily (Peter), Katie (Ryan), Joseph, Tommy (Libby), Michael, Patrick, Danny, Meghan and Christopher, and loving nieces and nephews. She saw greatness in each one, and they will continue to feel her unique brand of support for their lifetime. Her family, especially the grandchildren, will remember her as someone who loved being silly and was right at home at the kids’ table. Togetherness was a priority, and we are all blessed that we were together very recently. She will be near to us in our hearts forever. Visitation for Janet will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at from 10:00 - 11:30am at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville with a service at 11:30.
