Obituary of William B. Nordhem

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William B Nordhem III, 78, passed away peacefully in his Lincoln Park home on November 5, 2021. Bill, or Billy as he is known to some friends and family, was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and a pillar of the Chicago restaurant scene, most notably The Four Farthings Tavern & Grill in Lincoln Park. Preceded in death by his parents, William Nordhem, Jr. and Estelle Nordhem Lautenschlager, his survivors include his daughters, Laura Nordhem and Julia Nordhem (from his marriage to Elaine Colón), his brother Jon Nordhem (Lesley), his sister Patti Nordhem Wilson (Chas), and many nieces.

Throughout his daughters’ lives, Bill exemplified a strong midwestern work ethic and a sense of humility that developed from his love of people and vast life experiences. Bill loved rock music and TV classics like The Three Stooges and W.C Fields. Many of the stories he told his daughters seemed as if they could easily be written right into those TV shows. Bill’s jolly and easy-going personality is what made him so beloved by family and friends. He was always quick to tell a joke so that everyone could laugh together. We’ll all remember Bill’s grounding presence and the positive energy that he projected.

The funeral services for Bill Nordhem will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 10th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville where the family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment to follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd, Libertyville.
