Obituary of Edward L. Clausen, DDS

Edward L Clausen DDS, 80, a former longtime resident of Highland Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2022. Ed was born in 1941 to Lawrence and Estella Clausen and grew up in Hammond, IN with his three siblings. He graduated from Hammond High in 1959, attended IU Northwest and Indiana University in Bloomington and graduated from the IU School of Dentistry in 1966. In 1966 Ed married the love of his life, Susan, and they moved to Augusta, GA, where Ed served as a Captain in the United States Army until 1968. He continued to serve in the Army reserves for 4 more years. Susan and Ed then moved to Highland, IN where Ed opened his dental practice where he practiced for over 40 years. He dearly loved his patients, many of whom became close friends.

Ed loved playing golf, especially with his Elks Golf League. One of his many talents was woodworking where he built a beautiful Queen Ann Clock, 3 mantels for 3 different fireplaces, cabinets, and shelving among many other projects. He also enjoyed caring for his lawn and garden. He and Susan loved to travel; Hawaii and Hilton Head were some of their favorite destinations. The Clausen family spent summer vacations on Europe Lake in Door County, WI, and on Lake Manitou in Rochester, IN with Susan’s family. He enjoyed fishing, boating, cars, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife Susan (nee Rauschke) of 56 years; his adoring children Jeffrey (Lynn) Clausen and Beth Ann (Peter) Chudy; and his dearest grandchildren David (Taylor) Clausen, Brenna Clausen, Annalese Chudy, Leah Chudy, Michael Chudy and Thomas Chudy. 

Funeral services for Ed will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, July 1st at Ridge United Methodist Church, 8607 Columbia Ave, Munster, IN 46321 where there will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors to follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
