Obituary of Raymond E Elster
Raymond E Elster, 57, longtime Libertyville resident, passed away Nov 17, 2022 unexpectedly. Ray grew up in Deerfield and was a Loyola Academy and Loyola University graduate. He went on to have a successful career in IT and made a career change to elder care after a health scare 7 years ago. He became devoted to the care of those who could no longer care for themselves. Ray was a skilled carpenter, he enjoyed woodworking and he could fix anything. He enjoyed boating on the open waters of Lake Michigan and loved fishing everywhere. Ray’s favorite role in life was father and he enjoyed playing an active role in his sons lives from coaching their youth soccer team to being their biggest supporter on the football field.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife Katy of 22 years; his adoring children Patrick S. and Thomas B.; his dearest sisters Linda (Peter) Meyer, Patricia Elster, Mary Beth Elster; his cherished in-laws, father-in-law Donald (Carol) Cruickshank, mother-in-law Marion Cruickshank and sister-in-law Laura Cruickshank and doting nieces and nephews Billy, Justin, Tara, Cayley, Luka, Edward Nealon Jr. and many aunts and uncles. Ray is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Joan Elster and his sister Karen Nealon.
Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Saturday Nov. 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday Nov. 25th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville.
