Obituary of Rosemarie Ann Simon

Please share a memory of Rosemarie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rosemarie Ann (Hinner) Simon passed away peacefully on May 14, 2022 (age 86) at home in Libertyville.  The third child of German immigrants, born and raised in Woodstock, Illinois, she attended St. Mary’s School grades 1-12.  She graduated with a degree in Education from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee.  After a humble start in Fairbury, IL, she later taught Language Arts and Social Studies at Miner Middle School in Arlington Heights.  She was very talented in arts, crafts, and writing.  She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, knitting, travel, bridge, gardening and flowers (especially roses).  She hosted myriad potluck meals and pool parties.  She was the former Village Clerk for Green Oaks.  A deep Roman Catholic faith stayed with her throughout life and influenced the many causes she actively supported.  Her stalwart defense of life from conception until natural death is evidenced in her ardent involvement in volunteer positions such as Lake County Right to Life (former president), Illinois Federation for Right to Life (former board member), St. Joseph’s Church (funeral luncheon ministry), Militia of the Immaculata (MI), Legion of Mary-Queen of Peace, WSFI Catholic Radio, eucharistic minister, political campaigns, rosary groups, and bible studies.  Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother, and her absolute favorite moments came during time spent with her beloved family. She firmly believed family is the basic unit of society.

Rosemarie is survived by her 5 cherished children: Robert J. (Diane) of Frankfort, Rita Tarpey of Libertyville, Mary Simon, MD of Avon, CT, Peter (Michelle) of Brooklyn, NY, and Thomas (Jennifer) of Corte Madera, CA; her adored 13 grandchildren Brittany, Robert, Catherine, Mary Clare, George, Anneliese, Ann, Margaret, Elliott, Caroline, Mark, William, and Luke; sister Marietta Saladin of Tucson, AZ; loving “Aunt Bootsie” to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Crane “Bob” Simon, her parents, Peter Wilhelm and Margaretha "Gretchen" Hinner, and her brother, John William “Bill” Hinner.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, May 26th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am on Friday, May 27th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville.
