Obituary of Daniel R. Meyer

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Daniel R. Meyer, 60, raised in Northbrook, IL always lived life to the fullest. He grew up with two older brothers, a younger sister, and a younger brother. Dan cherished his childhood and adolescence. He had many fond memories of family road-trips, the family cottage on the lake, skiing, fishing, softball, camping, boating, golf, concerts, campfires, and many other outdoor activities.

As an adult, Dan lived by the motto of work hard and play harder. For much of his career, he was the plant manager at Wm. W. Meyer & Sons. He split his time between his home in Mundelein and his cottage on the Chain O’ Lakes in Antioch, IL. Dan had a very positive outlook and made friends wherever he went. He had a larger-than-life personality and when he walked into a room, his positive energy could be felt by all.

Dan loved spending time with his friends, family, and most of all, his grandkids. He spent many hours coming up with ways to entertain and make the kids smile. He was never bored and always had an idea for a fun activity, or a fresh take that would get everyone rolling in laughter.

Dan was with his family when he passed away peacefully on June 14, 2022.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Susan, of 16 years; children Timothy (Jamie) Meyer, Elizabeth (Daniel) Rathjen; bonus children Christopher (Michelle) Jugo and Nicholas Jugo; grandchildren Michael and Ryan Rathjen; siblings Jim (Sandra) Meyer, Laura Trujillo and Steven Meyer. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Patricia Meyer and brother Scott Meyer.

Dan also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, co-workers, neighbors, and dear friends, many of which he was a “second father” to. He will be remembered for his generosity, his hearty room filling laugh, and the sparkle in his eye. Dan’s quick wit and great story telling ability will also be missed by all.  We will find comfort in knowing that his best stories have been told enough times to ensure they will be passed down for generations to come . . . Have you heard the one about the bear?
