Obituary of Joseph Martinez

Joseph "Joe" Martinez, 82, died at his home on September 22, 2013. Born in Rondout, IL, on July 20, 1931, Joseph proudly enlisted in the United States Army in 1949 and served as an airborne ranger. He was honorably discharged as Sergeant in 1953. Joseph spent the remainder of his career as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local 150. He retired in 1993 but found it hard to "sit still" so he worked for several additional years as a security guard for Pleviak Elementary School, Lake Villa, IL. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Violet (nee Obenauf); son, Craig J. Martinez; daughters, Christina (John) Miller, Paula (Glenn) Davis, and Melayna (Richard) Pokorny; and his beloved granddaughter Lillian Pokorny. Private funeral and interment services were provided by McMurrough Funeral Chapel, Libertyville. Joseph is at rest at Ascension Cemetery.
