Obituary of Kathryn Lynn McConnell

Kathryn Lynn McConnell, 82, of Libertyville died peacefully at Libertyville Manor on February 20, 2023 after a long illness.

She was born in Lake Forest, Illinois to Catherine and Louis McConnell on September 19,1940. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her only brother Louis J McConnell. She is survived by one niece, Sharon (McConnell) Byrne of Norridge, Illinois and her sister-in-law Joanne (Hutchinson) McConnell of Wood Dale, Illinois; cousins Judith (Steffenburg) Gurley; Joan (Steffenburg) Mally; Thomas Steffenburg; Linda (Schier) Logemann; Patricia (Schier) Kerr; Eliza (McConnell) Ardizzone; Nuria (McConnell) Pagano, and Nina, Amy McConnell.

Lynn, as she was known to her family, attended St. Mary School in Lake Forest until moving to Libertyville where she graduated from Highland School in 1954. She was a 1958 graduate of Libertyville-Fremont High School and a 1962 graduate of Northern Illinois University where she received her degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career in Crystal Lake and later taught school for the Department of Defense in France, Germany and Japan. She returned to Libertyville and taught for many years in the primary grades at Hawthorn School District 73 in Vernon Hills from which she retired. She served on the Board of the Riva Ridge Condominium Association and was a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary in Lake Forest.

In addition to her family, she is survived by the hundreds of children whose lives she touched at Hawthorn School District 73. They are her legacy.
