Obituary of Joanne S. Chiu

Joanne S. Chiu, 63, a longtime Vernon Hills resident, passed away on March 8, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joanne was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United States with her family when she was nine years old. She graduated from Mather High School in Chicago and received her bachelor’s degree from Columbia College in Chicago. After completing her education, she began a 38-year career with Allstate Insurance, recently retiring as the Division Manager of their Life Insurance Department.  Outside of work, Joanne was a dedicated mom and cherished her time surrounded by her family, especially on their annual vacation to Walt Disney World. She was a diehard Disney fan! Joanne was a world traveler and explored most of Europe. During her vacations, she enjoyed being immersed in other cultures and trying out their local delicacies. She enjoyed a good shopping trip and was always looking for the next perfect item. Joanne was an animal lover and was very attached to her cats, Isabella and Gizmo. She was a wonderful friend, wife, mom, and grandma, and she will be dearly missed.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband Wilson of 40 years; her precious children Tiffany (Brian) Groszek and Brandon (Cecilia Chin) Chiu and her adored grandchildren Nathan and Sophia; her dearest mom Fay Lau; her cherished siblings Linda (Wing) Chan, Janet (Munson) Fong, Christine (Bruce) Livingston, Margaret Lau, David (Mindy) Lau and Carol Yung; and many cousins.

Visitation for Joanne will be from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 16th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday March 17th at the funeral home, followed by the interment at Willow Lawn Memorial Park in Vernon Hills. Funeral information (847) 362-2626.
