Obituary of Theodore R. Carlus

Theodore R. Carlus, age 90, of Green Oaks, and formerly of Lake Bluff, passed away on April 15, 2023. Born on February 25, 1933, in Chicago, Ted was a graduate of St. Mary's College in Winona, MN, and later obtained his MBA from Northwestern University. He had a long and distinguished career, serving as the Vice President of Business at Lake Forest College and also teaching classes at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. Ted was instrumental in bringing the Chicago Bears to Lake Forest in the 1980s.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ted had a passion for flying planes, and he was an accomplished amateur radio operator and avid golfer. One of his notable achievements was his daily run, which he faithfully maintained for over two decades, putting in miles every day without a break. Ted and his best friend married sisters, and they remained close throughout their entire lives. He and his wife Joan shared a sense of adventure and traveled the world, all while Ted maintained his daily run ritual.

Ted was also a man of deep faith and dedicated himself to serving others. He was a minister of care,  and a regular volunteer for Lake County PADS. He touched the lives of many through his selfless service and commitment to his community.

Theodore R. Carlus will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his love for family, adventure and fitness, and his commitment to serving others. He leaves behind a legacy of accomplishments and cherished memories, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ted is survived by his loving children Ted (Theresa) Carlus, Mary Katherine (Daniel) Sramek and Mary Elizabeth (Steve) Pyne; his dearest grandchildren Sarah, Stephen, A.J., Casey, Abigail and Victoria; and his cherished sister Mary Ellen (Phil) Dote. He is preceded in death by his wife Joan 2009.

Visitation for Ted will be from 2:00 – 6:00 pm on Sunday April 30th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am on Monday May 1st at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to PADs of Lake County, 1800 Grand Ave, Waukegan, IL 60085 would be greatly appreciated. Funeral info (847) 362-2626.
