Obituary of Kathleen E. Phlamm
Kathleen E. Phlamm, of Mundelein, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 6, 2023, at the age of 82.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Phlamm, daughter Sue (Robert) Douglass; grandchildren, Jamie Douglass (Atticus Francken), Casey Sawicz, and Jackie Douglass; and sister Lucille Dolan. She was a dear aunt and friend to many.
She is preceded in death by her sister Barbara Evans and brother Walter Ritch.
Kathy was born and lived almost all her life in the Chicagoland area. Marrying young, she and Jim were thrilled when they welcomed their daughter, Sue, into the world while living in Chicago and eventually moved to Elmwood Park to raise their family, residing there for more than fourteen years.
Life then brought them to Philadelphia for three years, the only time they settled in another state. Since Kathy cherished her family above all else, they ultimately returned to their roots in Illinois, the place that was so close to their hearts. Kathy and Jim began constructing their dream home in Mundelein, where they would spend the next 33 years together.
Kathy was creative and always adding her own personal touch to life whether it be through making elaborate themed parties, sewing, or cultivating her garden. She loved exploring flea markets to find hidden gems to bring home and give them new life; similar to how she treated those in her life, welcoming everyone into her home with the most generous heart. Hosting and organizing all the family reunions and holidays, Kathy always brought people together to share in love and laughter.
Please join us in celebrating her life at a Memorial Service on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 1pm to 4pm. Be sure to be with us at 3pm for a blessing, words from family members, and what would be a necessity at any of Kathy’s parties; a craft table and game.
