Obituary of Kathleen S. Germata

Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kathleen S. Germata (nee Reynolds) of Mundelein IL. Born April 5, 1956, in Lynn, MA passed away on September 28, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John S. and Jacqueline M. (Smith) Reynolds.

Katie was the loving wife of Ted for almost 48 years, and loving mother of John and Michael Germata. She was the dear sister to John Stephen (Penelope) Reynolds, Timothy (Claudia) Reynolds, Maureen Barrile, Colleen (Daniel) Garrity, Priscilla (Michael) Formica, Matthew Reynolds, and Christopher Reynolds. Katie has many loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and friends. She has 3 grandchildren. Faith, Ted, and Harrison. She has a special friend, Genevieve, who is the mother of her grandchildren, and was very caring until the end.

Katie grew up in Saugus, Massachusetts, and moved to Libertyville in 1967. She always wore her East Coast heritage with pride and spent many summers in Maine at the family camp on Pickerel Pond.

Katie wore many hats over the years. She first worked at Winchester House nursing home for 5 years. After having children, she volunteered many hours at school before becoming Public Relations Officer for Diamond Lake Schools. She also taught religious education at Santa Maria Del Popolo for 7 years.

After working for the Park District and High School, Katie and her husband Ted became the owners and operators of Bearing Gifts, a crafter mall and gift shop in Mundelein. It became a place where many special friends were made.

Katie then worked for Hobby Lobby before being hired at Prairie Crossing Charter School as a one-on-one special education aide. After a few years Katie became a classroom assistant. She absolutely loved her time there and made many wonderful friendships with students and staff.

Her true calling was writing. Katie spent many hours writing with pen and paper. She ended up having 3 books published and could hardly believe someone wanted to print her books. Katie will mostly be remembered for her love: love of her husband, children, family, and friends; she never had a bad word for anybody.
