Obituary of Gill Klappenbach
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Anne (Gill) Klappenbach, 84, of Libertyville, passed away on November 7th, with family by her side.
Gill was born in Slough, England on April 12, 1940, to Anne and Arthur Standerwick. Gill moved to Washington DC in 1962, where she worked as a clerk at the World Bank. In 1965, she met and married the love of her life, Edward Klappenbach.
After marrying, Gill and Ed moved to Illinois and in 1970 they built a home in Libertyville, where they raised their children, Laura, Michael, and Jennifer.
Gill enjoyed many years working at Vernon Area Public Library in the circulations department. After retiring, she joined the Libertyville Methodist Church where she took pleasure in being a part of a kind and supportive community.
Above all, Gill cherished her family and being a wife and mother. She encouraged her children and grandchildren in every aspect of life, including music, studies, and sports. She delighted in the holidays and filled them with abundant warmth, food, and love for her family.
Gill was also a devoted grandmother to Ansley, Kyleigh, Maddie, and Aria, helping out at every opportunity and delighting in every moment she spent with her granddaughters. Gill became a great-grandmother in August when Penelope was born.
Gill was predeceased in 2009 by her loving husband, Edward Klappenbach; her sister Patsy Standerwick; and her parents Anne and Arthur Standerwick. Gill is survived by her children Laura Klappenbach (Philip Blezard), Michael Klappenbach (Laura Inverarity), and Jennifer (Douglas) Hess; her granddaughters Ansley (Garrett) Kinart, Kyleigh Klappenbach, Maddie Klappenbach, and Aria Klappenbach; her great-granddaughter Penelope Kinart; and her brothers Gordon (Margaret) Standerwick and Tony Standerwick.
A visitation is scheduled for 3:30 pm followed by a funeral service at 5 pm on November 19, 2024 at the McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl., Libertyville. The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or The Lighthouse for the Blind in lieu of flowers.
