Obituary of George W. Cook

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of George W. Cook of Libertyville on November 25, 2024. He was born May 29,1943 in Kansas City, Missouri to Margaret and George Cook of Chicago. He was a graduate of Luther North High School and attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign majoring in Industrial Design.

George spent his career as a Packaging Engineer with Union Camp, Hyland Diagnostics and Robert Case and Associates. The last twenty-five years of his career was with Littlefuse with retirement in 2008. He married his wife and best friend Mary (nee Diangikes) on July 6, 1963. George and Mary celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 6, 2023. They were the parents of two sons, Mark of Las Vegas and Edward (Tammy) of Chicago. He was always attending sporting events, school activities and family get-togethers as a proud grandfather of Alex (Jess), Griffin and Paige. He was extremely proud to have attended the college commencements of his three grandchildren and Alex's wedding. A great-grandchild, Benjamin Edward will arrive in December 2024.

Upon retirement, George loved working in his yard. He also volunteered for many years at The Chicago Botanic Garden. Mary and George began traveling in 1997 with a trip to Egypt and each year another journey began with trips to Machu Picchu, China, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Thailand, Cambodia, Jordan, Israel, Morocco, Central America and various European countries. They both loved ancient cities and archeological sites across the globe. They also loved visiting the US National Parks and taking wonderful rail journeys in the western states.

The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at The Laurel of Vernon Hills Memory Care and Suncrest Hospice for their exceptional care of George.

George and Mary have lived in Libertyville for 48 years and were so proud of the community and grateful to have raised their family in this town.

He was predeceased by his parents and son Mark of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife Mary, son Edward and wife Tammy and grandchildren.
