Obituary of Joseph F. O'Grady

Joseph F. O'Grady, MD, 88, of Vernon Hills, formerly of Glenview, passed away on December 8, 2024. Joe lived a life filled with faith, service, adventure, and love. After graduating from Loyola Medical School, he served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Antietam. Joe then dedicated his life to helping others as an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor. He was a respected physician at Resurrection Hospital and shared his expertise as a faculty member at Northwestern University.

But Joe was more than just a doctor. He embraced life with passion and energy. In his 70s, he proudly completed the Chicago Marathon, showcasing his incredible determination. He was a lifelong skilled golfer who enjoyed the challenge and camaraderie. With his wife Jane by his side, he explored the far reaches of the planet, from the bustling streets of Hong Kong to the tranquil waters of the Cayman Islands, where they shared a love for snorkeling.

Above all, Joe cherished his family. His happiest times were spent at their lake house in Sleepy Hollow, Michigan, creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren.

Joe was a lifelong Catholic and an active member of St. Mary of Vernon Parish. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Jane, his loving children Karen (Art), Joe Jr (Sue), Julie (the late Floyd) and Patrick; his dearest grandchildren Clara, Andy, Johnny, Eric and Brian; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard (Carol).

Funeral Mass for Joe will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday Dec 17th at St. Mary of Vernon Catholic Church, 236 US-45, Indian Creek, IL. There will be a visitation at church one hour prior to Mass. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org would be greatly appreciated.
