Harry James Devine, 89, passed away on March 20, 2014 in Vernon Hills, IL. He was born in 1924 in Bayonne, N.J. He enlisted in the Army after graduating from St. Peter's Prep and served in the 33rd Armored Division in Germany. When the war ended, Harry returned home to his childhood sweetheart, Marjorie McKeon. She had faithfully written to him every day they were apart, and they married on October 23, 1948 in Bayonne, N.J. He then began a long and successful career with Exxon. In 1961, he was transferred to Houston and, while continuing to work, earned his B.A. from the University of Houston. He loved his family and cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. An active member of the Catholic Church, he volunteered in many ministries in service to others. Harry loved following football and was a fan of Notre Dame, the Houston Oilers and the Texans. We have lost another member of the Greatest Generation. Harry is survived by his wife, Marjorie, his children: Jim (Barb), Janet (David), and E.J. (Brenda), and his grandchildren: Jed (Laura) Devine, Mary Devine, J.D. (Jennifer) Devine, Stephen Devine and Hap Hinners. A private service will be held on April 5 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Please sign guestbook at libertyvillefuneralhome.com
