John "Jack" William Bendt, 1st Sgt US Army ret., 75, of Libertyville, passed away April 12, 2014 at Advocate Condell Med. Ctr. Jack was born in Rockford, IL and had been a Libertyville resident for the past 42 years. Jack had served in the military for over 43 years and had received many decorations and awards for his services including "Distinguished Graduate of his Officers Candidate School" class. But for all of his formal recognition, the most important honor to his was being referred to as "Top" by the men serving under him as well as his superior officers. Jack is survived by his beloved wife Tanya of 48 years of marriage, his loving daughter Barbara (John) Sehnert, III, he was the proud grandfather of Lily Sehnert, the dear brother of David and the respected and admired friend of the men he had served with in the military forces. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wed. April 23 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 29700 N. St. Mary's Rd, Libertyville with Military honors following. Interment will be private at Ft. Sheridan Cemetery, Ft. Sheridan, IL. Please omit flowers. Donations to a favorite charity in Jack's honor would be greatly appreciated.
