John A Bednar, 97, of Hawthorn Woods passed away May 2,2014. John was born in Arkansas in 1916. He moved to Cleveland in his 20's where he was offered a job at Mondie Forge. He started out pushing a wheelbarrow and moved up to Foreman. In retirement he moved back to Arkansas where he was a crop farmer in addition to raising cattle. After he sold his farm he moved to Carlisle, Ark and then most recently to Hawthorn Woods. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Ela Township "55 plus" club. John enjoyed woodworking and was most famously remembered for the wooden replicas of antique engines he made using only his imagination, some of which are on display in museums. He enjoyed working on the lathe making wooden wine glasses, bowls, and duck callers. He also enjoyed fishing, bingo and remained active by regularly going to the gym twice a week.
John is survived by his children Kathleen (John) Felice and John M (Nancy) Bednar; he grandchildren Nichole (Daniel) Wasilewski,Christopher (Stacey) Felice, Timothy (Grace) Bednar and Chad Bednar; his great-grandchildren Brayden and Hailey Felice and Samuel Wasilewski; his sister Augustine and many nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his first wife Mary (nee Lafko) of 29 years of marriage and his second wife Mary (nee Halijan) of 25 years of marriage; grandchild John Matthew Bednar and brothers and sister Edward, Elmer, Phillip, Veronica, Vincent.
