Joan W. Gordon, 88 of Libertyville, IL passed away peacefully, January 30, 2017. She was a beloved mother to Jeffery (Lisa) Gordon and Laurie (Mitchell) Madden (nee Gordon) and a cherished grandmother to Julia and Scott Gordon and Sean and Keith Madden. Joan grew up in Chicago as the only child of Robert and Helen Whisner during the Depression. Despite her humble upbringing, she was very generous throughout her life. She was married to Norman Gordon for 43 years until he passed away in 1995. Joan was a former 60 year resident of Glenview, IL. She loved tending to her garden and decorating her home and was always known as a thoughtful neighbor. The adjective that everyone used to describe her was “sweet”. Joan was a stay-at-home mom and was there for her family always with great advice and an empathetic ear. She was a beautiful person inside and out and she stood out in the crowd wearing her signature scarlet red lipstick. Joan was a one-of-a-kind lady and she will truly be missed.
