Obituary of James A. Grigsby

James A. Grigsby, 99, WWII Army veteran, formerly of Grayslake Saddlebrook Farms, passed away April 18, 2017 peacefully at home with his family by his side. In his youth, Jim joined the Civilian Conservation Corps to help better our nation through the Great Depression. Upon returning from serving his country in WWII he joined Bell & Howell where he remained a dedicated and hardworking employee until retirement. As a lifelong Cubs fan, Jim finally got to see them win the World Series last year. Jim was a wonderful friend to many, and his loving spirit carried with him in all aspects of life. He was a gentle man and part of the “Greatest Generation.” At 99, he still retained his sharp mind, his sense of humor and his caring heart. Jim cannot be replaced, only mourned and remembered for all he meant to those who loved him so much. Jim is survived by his daughter Catherine (Rolf) Hohertz; grandchildren Theresa (Michael) Barber-Hathaway, Laura (Rich) Dickens and Juliana Zajac; great-grandchildren Abby, Sarah, Danielle, Rachael, Justin and Jessica and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor and great-granddaughter Noelle. Funeral Service with military honors will be at 1:30 pm Monday April 24 at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, (Rt 176, 1 Blk East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment Maryhill Cemetery, Niles.
