Obituary of Elaine Thomas

Elaine Thomas, nee Hartung, 81, of Libertyville passed away July 23, 2017 at Lutheran General Hospital.

Elaine was born in Cuba City, WI and had been a Libertyville resident since 1969.  She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and received her MA degree from Northern Illinois University.  Elaine had retired from Hawthorn School District where she had served as a Reading Specialist for 20 years.  She was a proficient cook, entertainer and enjoyed sewing.  She had served as a Girl Scout leader and Religious Education teacher.  In retirement, she and her husband, John enjoyed travelling and became Arizona Snowbirds where she became active in the Desert Foothills Land Trust for the greater Phoenix area.

Elaine is survived by her husband, John R. Thomas of 58 years of marriage; her children Michele (Mario) Gentile, Carol Thomas and Sharon Thomas; her grandsons Matthew, Michael, William and Alexander; and her sister Shirley Eberlein.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Friday July 28, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 East Maple Ave. in Libertyville.  Private Entombment will be at Ascension Cemetery.  Visitation Thursday July 27, 2017 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville (Rt. 176, 1 block East of Milwaukee Ave).
