Ctr. Joe spent his career in the field of finance and was an active civil servant serving as Libertyville Treasurer for over 15 years and also served as Treasurer of school district 72 and Rondout School. Joe was a founding member of the Libertyville Athletic Club, the Central Lake County Y.M.C.A. and the Lake County Rifles Football Club. Joe served in an official capacity for the Mundelein Area United Fund, the Mundelein Chamber of Commerce and the Libertyville Community Club. He was also involved with the Mundelein Rotary, Chicago Kiwanis and the Cardinal Stritch Council of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Recreation Commission of the Village of Libertyville. In his retirement he worked for Bob Chinn’s as an auditor and delivered Catholic Charities “Meals on Wheels” in Gurnee for 17 years. Most of all, Joe loved worshipping his Lord at Marytown.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Carol of 51 years; his adoring children Larry (Carol), Greg, and Laura (Oscar) Amaya; sister Eileen (Al) Gerbracht and brother Tom (Marsha), 8 cherished grandchildren Rachael, Andrew, Matthew, Joe, Jenne, Isabella, Aiden and Veronica, and was also a friend to many as a lifelong resident of Libertyville.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Monday Feb. 26th at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple, Libertyville. Visitation will be 3:00 – 6:00 pm Sunday Feb. 25th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl (Rt 176, 1 Blk East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville. Interment will be private at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities “Meals on Wheels”, 721 N LaSalle, Chicago, IL 60654.
