Obituary of Jerome M Butkus
Jerome (Jerry) M. Butkus passed peacefully Wednesday afternoon, September 19, 2018, surrounded by his family. Jerry was the loving husband of Colette Butkus (Lorden), adoring father of Nicki Turek (Butkus) and her husband Cooper. Born in Waukegan, Illinois on August 24, 1941 to Anthony and Anne Butkus (Zavaski), he graduated from DePaul University and worked in finance in his favorite city, Chicago. Later, he settled in Libertyville with his wife to raise their daughter and build their home.
Jerry’s favorite thing to do was spend time with family and friends. Through the years he valued keeping old friendships alive, and reaching out to new people he could bring into his life. Jerry was a master of trivia who loved to learn and discuss history, geography, travel, and sports. He was the ultimate Chicago sports fan, and loved his favorite team, da Bears.
A man of faith, Jerry ushered at the 12:30 pm Sunday Mass at St. Joseph's Church in Libertyville and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jerry is also survived by his sister Barbara (Butkus) and Don Schultz, brother Jim and Loretta Butkus, brother Al Butkus and Mary O’Neill, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He will be missed by many.
