Obituary of Mary Sullivan
Mary Rose Sullivan (nee Jordan) died peacefully on November 10, 2018, at Autumn Leaves in Vernon Hills firm in her faith, with her family by her side and surrounded by love. Mary was the youngest of four children and the only daughter of Italian immigrants, Charles and Providenza Jordan. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Joseph and Carl Jordan and her sister in-law Lauretta Jordan.
Mary was an editor at Lake Publishing in Libertyville for many years until she met the love of her life, Gerry Sullivan. On September 20, 1975, they were married and Mary became the instant mother of three daughters who had lost their mother. She converted tragedy into countless and immeasurable blessings. Mary was a life-long parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic parish in Libertyville and was devoted in so many different ways over the years to the parish she loved. She was a kind and loving soul who was supremely selfless and a giver to anyone who needed anything.
Mary had a little lamb. No she didn’t … but she had a sense of humor and loved to laugh. She also had many hobbies and interests that reflect her open mind and veracious love of life. She was an accomplished pianist, an unlikely motorcycle enthusiast, an avid camper and a lover of travel. She loved to cook, read, play bridge, frequent farm breakfasts and anything related to her family.
Mary is survived by her very loving husband Gerry; her daughters Maureen O’Malley (Jean Houlihan), Kathleen Sullivan (David Ritter) and Shannon (Scott) Puleo; and her cherished grandchildren Austin and Rosie O’Malley and Lilly, Logan and Lacey Puleo. Mary is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Adam and Millie Jordan, many nieces and nephews and countless other extended family members, all of whom she loved dearly.
Mary and her family would like to thank Autumn Leaves and Heartland Hospice for their tireless support, care and love.
