Obituary of Shirley L. Hanlon
Shirley L. (Wellwerts) Hanlon of Mesa, AZ and Libertyville, IL died September 27, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Libertyville, attending St. Joseph’s grade school and graduating with Libertyville High School’s class of 1947.
Shirley married Robert “Bob” Hanlon on June 19, 1948 and they celebrated almost 62 years before he passed March 16, 2010. Upon their retirement, they enjoyed their summer home in Edgerton, WI and their home in Fountain of the Sun in Mesa, AZ eventually making it their full time residence.
Shirley and Bob enjoyed traveling together across both the United States and Canada, visiting the countries of their ancestry Germany and Ireland and she was able to see Australia. She was a proud homemaker and welcoming hostess who loved a good party, her radiant smile and inclusive nature brought many friends to her life. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and Farkle and she was a proficient winner at both.
Shirley’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She is survived by her daughter M. Susan (Brandon) Burke, Timothy (Megan) Hanlon and Jeffrey (Sue) Hanlon, 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was the loving sister of Frank (Jeanne) Wellwerts of Chandler, AZ. She was proceeded in death by her parents Louise and Frank Wellwerts, her husband Robert “Bob” Hanlon and her husband Bill Brown.
Shirley’s faith was paramount in her life and left this world knowing she would be welcomed to heaven. A Memorial Service for Shirley will take place Friday, July 23, 2021 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville, IL 60048. Funeral Mass to follow Saturday, July 24th, 2021 at 10:00AM. Interment at Ascension Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by McMurrough Funeral Chapel in Libertyville (847-362-2626).
