Obituary of Joan Ann Bennes

Joan Ann Bennes, 87, of Mesa AZ, passed away on September 23, 2021 at home surrounded by her four sons. Joan was a long-time resident of Libertyville, II. After Graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Chicago, she went on to pursue her nursing degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee WI. She obtained her Certificate of Nursing from St. Anne’s School of Nursing in 1955. Joan worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for 30 years in Lake County at Lake Forest Hospital and in a private duty role. Joan and her husband Peter relocated to Mesa AZ in 1993. While in Arizona, she was a Volunteer at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa AZ for many years. She also volunteered at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mesa where she supported many church activities and clergy. She was a member of the Holy Cross Council 7904 Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Joan enjoyed traveling to many areas to visit family, friends, and desired locations throughout the world. She was an avid sports fan for her local teams, both in Illinois and in Arizona. She adored and cherished the time she spent with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her husband Peter Bennes, Jr., son Peter Bennes III (Sally), and her parents Ann Slowinski and Francis Bronersky. She is survived by her four sons David (Marie) of Denver, NC, Robert (Ann) of Brentwood, TN, Jim (Diane) of Palatine, IL, and Chris (Karla) of Demark, WI, her Adoring grandchildren Peter Tyler, Brooke, Jack, Caitlin, Olivia, Alex, Eric, and step-grandchildren Brittany and Travis Zirbel. She is also survived by her sister Fran Regan of Elmhurst, IL.

A visitation for Joan will be from 4-8pm on Friday Oct 1 at McMurrough Funeral Chapel (847) 362-2626, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am Sat. Oct. 2 at St. Joseph Church, 121 Maple Ave., Libertyville with the burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
