Obituary of David J Meade

David J Meade, 83, a lifelong Libertyville fixture passed away July 28, 2022. Dave proudly served his country in the US Army and then served his community as a volunteer Firefighter before dedicating 28 years as a full-time Libertyville Firefighter. Dave fell for his love Siri in 1970 while working at International Harvester. Together they raised their family in Libertyville’s Brookhill Park. Dave loved the creek that ran through the property and most family gatherings with kids and grandkids centered around it. He spent many hours perfecting and building the bridge to cross the creek and twice a year a crew of his family and friends would come over to erect the bridge (and have a few beers) in the Spring and take it back out (and have a few beers) in the Fall. We will all miss hearing him welcome us with his “Me-Boy” and “My-Dear”. Dave always had a toothpick in his mouth that he would quickly flick back into his mouth to protect you so he and his flannel shirt could give you a giant hug. Dave loved locomotives and could sit on the banks of the Mississippi for hours watching barges go by. He was always ready to discuss what the weather was about to do and was always in the mood for the lemon or chocolate cake from Portillo's. His welcoming smile and infectious laugh drew everyone to this friend we all wish we still had.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife Siri of 51 years; his loving children Ingrid (Doug) Mitchell, Erik (Jamie) Meade, Stephanie “Sam” (Todd) Felinczak; his cherished grandchildren Lindsey (Mark), Amanda, Logan (Bailey), Brody, Emma, Ian, Jack, Ryan, Ella, and Josh; his dearest great-grandson Mason; his sister-in-law Marge and his nieces Linda, Denise and Jenny and nephews Harry Jr. and Mark. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Marie, Aunt Louise and brother Harry Meade. 

Visitation for Dave will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, Aug. 8th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Service with military honors will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, Aug. 9th at the funeral home. Private interment at Lakeside Cemetery, Libertyville.
