Obituary of Mike Sargent

Mike Sargent, 81, US Navy, longtime Libertyville resident, passed away December 24, 2022 peacefully at home. Mike was born in Oklahoma and graduated from Central State College in Mathematics. Mike proudly served our country during the Vietnam War as the Communication Officer aboard the U.S.S. Hawkins. Mike was fascinated by all things space-related and loved following the progress of NASA throughout the decades. He enjoyed music and was an avid reader of all genres, from Sci-Fi to Westerns and even Romantic Suspense. Mike had the innate ability to reinvent himself continuously. With his abundant talents, he could switch career paths and in doing so has a resume as comprehensive as it is profound. Mike indeed did it all. He enjoyed a good joke and thoroughly enjoyed time with his friends, watching sports, playing cards, or sharing stories and photos of his cherished grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Janet; his dearest children Andrew (Ann) and Amy (Jason) Lundy; and his adoring grandchildren Braden, Bricen, Henry, and Katie. He was preceded in death by his sister Judy Etheridge.

Funeral services for Mike will be at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 until the time of the service.
