I have known Arnie since the 2nd grade at Palmer School on the northwest side of Chicago. The amazing thing is that we became life-long friends and shared many happy times by ourselves and with each others families. We watched each other's kids grow into adults and spent many hours together visiting each others homes. Our times on Diamond Lake are precious to me. There are many other things we shared that are just too numerous to relate in this brief remembrance.
As things changed over the years for both of us, the one thing that never changed was our abiding friendship. Through everything, we always kept in contact either by phone or short visits in Illinois where he lived or here in Michigan where I now live.
His photo is on my desk. I miss my oldest and dearest friend and will do so until the end of my days.

Dearest Family of Arnold Johnson, I would like to offer our deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that in his passing you can celebrate the end of a very long and productive life. The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind. If the outpouring of sympathy on his loss is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that his indeed was a life well-lived. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him. In Sympathy, Daniel Gundert(Friend of Gary Johnson)

There are some who bring a light so great into the world that even after they have gone the light remains. Arnold, your light will shine in our hearts forever.

Dear Pam, Jim, David, & Gary, Even though we knew it was coming soon, Arnie's death saddened us deeply. There is not one person in my life that I have known for over 70 years. We had so many great times together: visiting in Newport News, VA in 1955 when he was ready to set sail on the Forrestal, watching our families grow up, picnics and boating at Diamond Lake, parking cars for ten years for Cub and Bear games at my dad's factory. When he came to visit just a short time before he went into the home in Gurnee, he was determined that I drive his six-speed Audi at break-neck speed on Michigan's back roads. He was also up here for my 70th birthday and took a great group photo of my whole family and friends. I cherish that deeply. The memories over whelm me. I think you know how deep our friendship was. We will make every effort to be there on Friday, weather permitting. If we can't make it, you know our thoughts are with all of you. Please keep us informed if there will be any kind of memorial services in the future. You all have our most sincerest condolences. And we say, "good-bye, old friend." With all our love, Dick and Shirley
